Centre Stage on Main

Ballet (Ages 3 & up) starts at the 'barre', which supports the balance of the body while it completes various routines designed to increase strength, mobility and 'turn out' .  The discipline required for ballet develops a heightened sense of grace and fluidity.

Tap (Ages 3 & up) focuses on musical phrasing and the complexity of rhythms with less emphasis on the visual part and more on the challenge of "making melodies" with the feet.

Ballet/Tap Combo (Ages 3-6yrs) This class focuses on an introduction to Ballet and Tap dance, and also incorporates some Jazz and Creative Movement. Pre-Schoolers get a chance to move to music, tell stories through dance and Creative Movement, use of props, and learn the basics of Tap and Ballet form, music, and steps.

Ballroom Dancing (pre-teen & up) is the latest dance craze sweeping the nation.  This class includes a combination of traditional ballroom dances such as the waltz as well as Latin dances, such as the mambo.

Modern (Ages 10 & up) is usually a lyrical and more poetic way of moving, which evolved as dancers found the need to break away from the rigidity of Classical Ballet and express themselves using a freer style. Modern Dance is characterized by its bending of the spine into spirals and contractions as well as the use of off-center movement such as tilts.

Jazz (Ages 5& up) is a rhythmic, percussive dance form seen primarily in commercial venues, such as Broadway shows. Evolving from a blend of European and African traditional social dances, it assimilated into the American culture, with Ballet and Modern Dance contributing to its elegance and African Dance providing its rhythmic propulsion and percussive style.

Hip Hop (All ages) is seen primarily on TV during rap and R & B music videos. It is a form that evolved out of street and break dancing moves, and is characterized by its vigorous athletics and bouncy style. Hip Hop is danced primarily to Hip Hop, Rap and R & B music.

Level 3 Team(Ages 9-17 yrs) - This AUDITION ONLY class is a higher level class evolving from the Intermediate Team.

Level 2 Team (Ages 7-9) - This AUDITION ONLY class is a new addition to Centre Stage and is an extension of the Youth Team. 

Level 1 (Ages 5-6 yrs) This AUDITION ONLY class promotes versatility in the areas of ballet, tap, and jazz. It provides higher concentration in technique to prepare for dance competitions. 

Pom Funk (Ages 5 & up) A dance team styled class utilizing pom pons.  This is a class great preparation for dance team.

Acrobatics (Ages 3 & up) Floor-based technique focusing on tumbling and stunts.

Technique (Ages 10 & up) This class provides non-performance based instruction that is strictly designed to increase the student’s level of technical ability.  Ideal for students preparing to audition for competitions and dance teams/dance companies.

Liturgical (Ages 6 & up) Lyrical movement to religious-based music.

Contemporary (Ages 10 & up) - innovative style of jazz movement, requiring technical skills.

Ballroom (Late teens through Adult) Instruction in various styles of social dance, including but no limited to, Salsa, Fox Trot, Waltz, Mambo, and the Rumba.

Musical Theatre I (Ages 5-9 yrs) is a class that incorporates vocal, acting, and dancing abilities, with a focus on preparing students for future performances in the arts.

Musical Theatre II (Ages 10 & up) is the advanced level of Musical Theater I.

Triple Threat is an AUDITION ONLY performance troupe that utilizes vocal, acting, and dance skills in various theatrical performances.  This class is designed for those who have a serious interest in developing a career in the arts.

Film Studies (Ages 12-17) is an introduction to the basics of film-making.  Students will first develop a foundation by studying the aesthetics of classical films.  This instruction will then lead into the study of pre-production, production, and post-production procedures in making movies.  This class will culminate in a filmed class project to be screened in front of an audience.
